Our tips on the best social media dashboards

In today’s market, one of the key components of success for any digital or brand marketing agency is unquestionably developing a digital presence through social media. Creating a strong personal brand will help to distinguish you from your competitors, as well as further optimising your website for search engines. But it’s easier said than done. Many businesses fall short at the first few hurdles, and this is simply down to the level of social media activity required to actually make a difference. Alas, making and maintaining enough of a difference and staying ahead of the times can be a time-consuming process, since Social Media Marketing is an endless marathon, not a sprint.

However, if Social Media Marketing is the race and you are the athlete, then your Social Media Dashboard is your coach, diet and training routine all-in-one. If you’ve got the time to juggle all of your social platforms yourself in amongst your other marketing activities, then great, but most of us just haven’t. This is why it’s essential to find a Dashboard that suits your needs.

Thankfully there is an overabundance of different Social Dashboards, so let’s go over a few of your options:

Buffer

Pros: Buffer is a great one for staggering marketing content throughout the day across many of the larger social platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.). It’s pretty clean and user-friendly, so if you’re fairly new to the Social Media game, Buffer is a simple and efficient resource that is bound to help you get your digital or brand marketing campaigns underway.

Cons: Like I said, Buffer is a fairly simple Dashboard. Though this is as much a weakness as it is a strength. If you manage numerous social accounts with lots of followers, and have an interest in interacting/responding to tweets, Buffer probably isn’t advanced enough to satisfy your needs.

Pricing: The individual plan is free, but you can also opt for one of their paid plans which can start from either £10 or £50 per month.

Hootsuite

Pros: Integrated with over 25 social networks, Hootsuite is one of the biggest and most dimensional Dashboards on the market. It comes up top trumps in terms of practicality; with great engagement, publishing and workflow features, as well as analytics and marketing campaign management facilities. 360 Brand and Digital reckon Hootsuite is the ideal solution if you’re seeking to combine publishing and engagement with a social analytics solution.

Cons: Nevertheless, this complex and multifunctional platform can be rather daunting for social media rookies and can take a bit of time of getting used to. However, once you get past that stage and start exploring all its benefits, it’s all 100% worth it.

Pricing: There’s a free plan available which is great for personal use, but you’ve also got two additional options: Pro (from £7.19/month) or Enterprise, which is only really for large organisations.

Tweetdeck

More often than not, trying to juggle multiple social platforms leads many companies to giving up. In this case, perfectly utilising one of one of the mainstream networks is your next-best option.

Enter: Tweetdeck.

Pros: If you’re simply looking for a Twitter-focused managing tool, with a clean and responsive interface, this unique system fits the bill incomparably. Tweetdeck makes it easy to engage with streams and posts quickly and flexibly, allowing you to add all the streams you’re interested in to keep an eye on.

Cons: If we’re honest, Tweetdeck’s interface makes it quite difficult to manage more than one Twitter account. Lack of analytics can also be an issue, but we’d still highly recommend this as a first Twitter dashboard if you’re only managing a single account.

Pricing: IT’S FREE!

In summary…

It’s horses for courses, really. At 360 Brand and Digital, we use Hootsuite, and it really is the bees-knees if you’re a marketing agency with multiple accounts to run and wanting the whole shebang. But that’s not everyone, and while our three options of Hootsuite, Buffer and Tweetdeck cover most bases, there are plenty more social dashboards for you to consider.
